- Size: Grows about 12 to 24 inches tall and up to 24 to 36 inches wide, forming dense multi-headed rosettes.
- Foliage: Triangular, fleshy green leaves with soft yet sharp golden-yellow or white teeth along the edges. Leaves can develop a rose or orange tint when exposed to full sun. [
- Flowers: Bright orange to red-orange tubular flowers on tall spikes (about 2 feet high) that bloom from late spring through summer and attract hummingbirds and bees.
- Parentage: An interspecific hybrid—most commonly thought to be a cross between Aloe mitriformis and Aloe brevifolia, or Aloe distans and Aloe brevifolia.
Care & Cultivation
- Light: Thrives in full sun to partial shade. More sun brings out brighter edge colors and stress tones.
- Soil: Requires porous, well-draining sandy, rocky, or gravelly soil. Avoid standing water to prevent root rot.
- Water: Low water needs. Allow the soil to dry out completely between deep waterings.
- Hardiness: Hardy in USDA Zones 9 through 11 (down to about 20°F / -6.7°C). Protect from heavy frost.
- Propagation: Easily multiplies by producing offsets (pups) around the base, which can be divided and replanted.
