The Brookings-Harbor
Garden Club has spent years working with and turning out new Master Gardeners,
with the help of the Oregon State University Extension Service. Their help with
plant sales, plant clinics and general education has made them an invaluable
part of our community relationships and ability to expand our general knowledge
base of gardening. The monthly calendar link below is a reminder of key garden
chores, such as fertilizing, pest control, planting, and maintenance.
Recommendations in the calendar are not necessarily applicable to all areas of
Oregon, so contact the extension office if you have any questions specific to
your region.

Interested in becoming a Master Gardener...?
Partnering with the Curry County Master Gardeners Association through the OSU Extension Service is one way we help to educate our community about what grows best in our area, along with what NOT to plant so we don't overrun our region with invasive species. Sometimes we just don't know what we don't know about, which is why our garden club loves to offer all the help we can to promote techniques, ideas and general gardening knowledge. Going into the Master Gardener's program is one way our own members have found to grow themselves, along with their plants!

TESTIMONIALS:
"I took part in the Master Gardener program in 2025. When I moved to Brookings from Sacramento, the climate and many of the plants in my new region were quite different, and I felt I needed to learn more in order to garden effectively here. The program takes place in the winter, from January through March. It’s an intensive combination of in-person classes on specific Saturdays, along with some home study modules. The instructors who lead the in-person sessions are very knowledgeable and the subject matter is especially interesting. There are required volunteer hours each year that may be completed in a variety of ways so you maintain your certification. I have found it to be an extremely valuable experiential journey for anyone who wants to become to be a better gardener." Patty M. - Brookings, OR - 2026
